If you are trying to rank your articles or website, understanding how many sites are competing for your keyword phrase can be helpful.   Searching for your keyword phrase in quotes is a good way to determine whether other sites are also utilizing the same keywords. The search will return a number of pages containing the keywords. However if a page contains the keyword does not mean that the website is optimizing for that keyword.   Google provides search operators to help optimize your keywords. Intitle By searching in Google, intitle:”your keyword phrase,” will return the pages that have your keyword in the title. Inurl By searching in Google, inurl:”your keyword phrase,” will return the pages that have your keyword phrase in the url Inanchor By searching Google, inanchor: “your keyword” will help you determine how many sites are competing for your keyword is the “in anchor” operator.   Keywords should be in the title of your articles, in your url and you would be back linking to the page with links that have the keyword phrase in the anchor text of that backlinks.
