What is a call to action (CTA)?
A call to action (CTA) moves your reader to:
- Request more information (Download our free guide)
- Engage more intimately with your brand (Leave your comments below)
- Make a purchase (Take advantage of a sale or trial)
When your call to action moves readers to ‘request more information’, they might fill out a contact form, sign up for a newsletter, download a white paper or make a phone call. In this case, you will have created access to your target client – via email or phone.
So how do I write the most compelling call to action that will yield the intended results?
Just like anything else that you write online, you want your call to action to be engaging and meaningful. ‘Click here’, for instance, is a pretty bland and generic call to action. Instead of telling readers to ‘Sign Up’, tell them to “read more to convert your leads by reading more.”
Studies reveal that the most valuable space on your website is in the upper right hand corner, above the fold. The eye travels here naturally, after it has had an opportunity to discern what your website is all about.
Some websites have their CTA’s at the end of a post or landing page or on the banner, so you might want to do some testing to see what works best for your readership.
